Multi-cultural teams
A Dutch international beverages company asked ICM
to develop a process to build cohesion and a shared
commitment on strategy between headquarters and
the African operating subsidiaries. This process
was sponsored directly by the Managing Director
for Africa. ICM designed and facilitated working
meetings for the Managing Directors, management
teams, and the top 200 leaders of the African operating
subsidiaries.
ICM’s challenge was to create a process that would
reinforce each operating unit's sense of belonging
to the company, strengthen managerial competencies
and allow each operating subsidiary to meet strategic
objectives more rapidly. To this end, we structured
a three-phase program. Firstly we created the opportunity
for everyone to understand the relevance and buy
into the strategic context. Then, we provided every
individual and team with time to identify and develop
competencies. Finally, we worked with the participants
to define and implement individual assignments. |

ICM's role in this process
was to :
- Design the process, along
with an internal team from Human Resources and
the company university
- Sell the process internally to the Africa
Cluster Managing Director
- Design the over-all process
and the five-day program
- Provide tools to help
local management teams plan for action learning
- Facilitate the five-day
bilingual (English and French) program
- Debrief and provide feedback to the organization
on program outcomes.
